Hello And Good Day. For About A Month Now I

Question: Hello and good day.

For about a month now I have been experiencing a skin itching which is more a nuisance than a problem. Regardless of that fact it is something that I want to consult about so that it does not escalate.

The itching occurs at very specific places, and it does not look like a standard rash. It occurs on the hand (not the palms), the fingers (upper side, never palm side) and arms beneath the elbow (only upper side, never bottom side). On rare occasions, I feel the same kind of itch in my eyebrow region.

The itching never persists during sleep, but tends to activate once the normal daily routines are established. By its nature this itch is quite intense, but does not blister after itching. The skin becomes reddish due to the friction and that’s it.

I have found myself involuntarily rubbing my hand against my beard because this is, it seems, the optimal amount of friction necessary to calm the itch.

Regarding this issue, I have not seen a doctor yet, but I have inquired at a Pharmacy for some kind of ointment or gel to quell this phenomena. There, I have obtained the opinion that this may be caused by allergies. This seemed plausible and I started taking anti allergy medication once a day which diminished the itch. I have than remembered that I had breathing difficulties during autumn, and that my physician determined them to be caused by allergies. I have at the time taken anti allergy medication and the symptoms evaporated during winter.

I am a 32 year old male, 191 cm, 130 kg. I have no incumbent sicknesses apart from mild fatty liver. I do not drink, smoke or take drugs.

Would You please be so kind as to instruct me what my further steps (if any) should be regarding this issue and give Your opinion as to what this malady might be?

Attached to this question, please find three pictures of my hand (few minutes after mild scratching).

Brief Answer:
Probably contact dermatitis, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I read carefully your query.

I also reviewed the attached report.

In my opinion the symptoms seem to be related to contact dermatitis.

I suggest using antihistamines daily such as Levocetirizine 10 mg daily.

I also recommend to use a hydrocortisone cream for local application in the area of itchiness.

I also recommend you to avoid products that can trigger the itchiness.

You can also do the allergy test to confirm what causes your symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query.
