Question: Hello,

I am travelling with family to Bali, Bangkok, Malaysia etc.

I am 41 years old. My wife is 36 years old.
My children are 12 years and 9 years.
Our general health is normally fine.

But, we would like to take some precaution medicines to avoid any health issues like fever, diarrhea, allergies due to weather conditions / changes, food, water and viral reasons.

It is advisable. Please guide me.

regards

Follow the advice...

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, it's certainly advisable to carry a few necessary medications for precautionary measures during your trip. Below I'm mentioning only those medications which can be easily taken anywhere abroad, for general precautionary purposes which are generally allowed by international customs also.

For fever, any kind of pain/aches you can take Tab PARACETAMOL 650mg, for your children PARACETAMOL Junior or half of the same adult medicines can be taken (always take them after some food).

For allergies, Tab LEVOCETIRIZINE 10mg can be taken (preferably taken once daily at bedtime but can be taken up to twice daily after food based on symptoms severity) for allergic cold/congestion, take some vapor capsules (eg. Carbol Vapo-caps).

For indigestion, take Cap PANTOPRAZOLE 40mg (preferably taken once daily before breakfast but can be taken up to twice daily prior to food based on symptoms / severity).

For nausea / vomiting Tab. Domperidone 10mg can be carried (preferably taken twice daily before food but can be taken up to thrice daily prior to food based on symptoms / severity)

For diarrhea, the best choice is immediate rehydration, always drink mineral water strictly, make sure to maintain proper hand-washing with antibacterial hand-wash before and after using wash-room, before and after eating anything...apart from this, carry WHO-ORS sachets for immediate supportive measures...some probiotics like ECONORM sachets can be carried (preferably taken twice daily with/after food but can be taken up to thrice daily based on symptoms/severity). In case of uncontrolled diarrhea, contact the local medical assistance at the visiting places for further check-up and consideration of antimicrobial therapy...

Some general first aids like Dettol liquids, band-aids, napkins, gauze pieces, hand-sanitizer solutions should also be taken along with these. Beware of any mosquito bites as all these regions are quite prone for these diseases too...always apply mosquito repellants like Odomos lotions while going out-doors and also carry personal mosquito repellents for indoor purposes(eg. liquidators).

It's advisable not to carry any antibiotics and in case of any suspected infections always consult the local medical stuffs without any further delay.

Let me know if there're any further doubts/queries.

Take Care
