Question: Hello,

I have a question regarding symptoms I am having and no one can tell me whats going on. Recently I have dropped 20 pounds in less then 6 months. I am a healthy 20 year old male. I have been measuring my heart rate and my resting heart beat while sleeping or awake goes up to 100-110 in a span of 10 min , increases and decreases. I have also started to shed hair a lot and I am not generally working out or eating unhealthy. I wake up sometimes with a lot of sweat on me and I have high blood pressure. I went for blood work. doctor said all looks good my thyroid was a bit low and then I took my blood work again and it increased again to almost a normal range. Could you help me to figure out what it could be?

Hello!

Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service!

I passed through your question carefully and would explain that your symptoms are not suggestive of any serious medical disorders.

You should know what such an increased heart rate is quite normal in every healthy individual during physical exercise or anxiety.

The loss of hair could be related to psychological stress or hormone imbalances.

Anyway, before coming to this conclusion, I would recommend performing an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG Holter monitoring in order to examine your heart rhythm for a prolonged time and exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia.

Other tests to check would be:

- a cardiac ultrasound in order to examine your heart function and structure
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalances
- vitamin D plasma levels for possible deficiency.

You should discuss this with your Doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need it!

Kind regards,

Dr.Ilir Sharka,

Hello Doctor,

Thank you for your reply, I have uploaded my blood work results so that you can have more information and see if you see anything that may need more info. the second shorter test was done 3 months after roughly.

As you stated "You should know what such an increased heart rate is quite normal in every healthy individual during physical exercise or anxiety. "

The thing is that rate is for my resting heart beat while i am sleeping not while active.

Thank you!

Hello again!

Thank you for the additional information and the reports!

I agree with your Doctor that the main finding is the thyroid hormone levels which is borderline.

This can contribute to this clinical situation. I would also recommend checking anti-TPO levels, free T4, and free T3 plasma levels to check for possible thyroiditis.

An ambulatory 24-48hours ECG monitoring is necessary too, in order to exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia.

You should discuss this with your Doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr.Iliri
