Brief Answer:
Increased fluid around the baby.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
AFI refers to Amniotic fluid index. The value og greater than 15 suggests an increased amount of amniotic fluid around the baby. This can be associated with some birth defects or diabetes and can happen normally also. This cannot be controlled with the help of medicines. YOu need a regular monitoring with ultrasound scans every month to detect any abnormality.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Reducing fluid intake will not help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
There are no reports attached with this query. The increased AFI can happen due to the baby producing an increased amount of urine, congenital malformations, such as a blockage of the baby's gastrointestinal or urinary tract, or an abnormal development of the brain and spinal cord, an infection, etc. Reducing the fluid intake or salt restriction will not help much. In case the fluid is too excessive then it can be drained by your gynecologist. In some cases medicines like Indomethacin is also used to reduce the urine production.
Hope my answer is helpful.
