Question: Hello, I am a 78 year old female (not sexually active), the last couple of days I have noticed a change in my vaginal area. I feel like something is falling out of my vagina, and in fact there is something filling the opening. I have itching and burning in the entire genital area. I had a hysterectomy in 1971. I have a GP but not an OBGYN.

Brief Answer:
Possible yeast infection and hysteroptosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

According though the symptoms of itching and burning you may be suffering a yeast infection.
Doing a vaginal smear to check for it is advisable.
In this case using clotrimoxazol or miconszole is advisable. They can be found over the counter.
About the things that you feel falling out of your vagina you need to get physically examined by a doctor even a GP can examine you since you are not having a gynaecologist.
The fact that you had hysterectomy means that it can't be uterus falling. It can be column ( if surgery didn't remove colum uteri) or even vaginal walls causing hysteroptosis ( falling of the vaginal walls outside). The mass may also be a rectal mass.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
