Hi XXXXX

I have gone through your description. You seem to be located in Bangalore. By the way, did you move into Bangalore a year back? I am asking this because many of the patients develop symptoms of allergic rhinitis after relocation.

You seem to have a condition called allergic rhinitis. Your nose is reacting because it is finding few substances (allergens) in the external environment as foreign to the body and possibly harmful too and hence reacting this way.

Firstly, you need to understand which are these allergens. They could be pollen, dust mite and sometimes even food stuffs especially sea foods.

Secondly, you need to understand that there is no magic bullet to treat allergic rhinitis as there are many substances that can cause allergies and also the different ways and degrees of response by each individual.

How do you then manage?

Treatment involves identifying the allergens, avoidance of allergens, and treatment with medicines and nasal spray against the body's response to the allergens.

Allergens can be identified with specific allergy tests including blood and skin tests. If specific allergens are found they could be avoided. As some of the allergens that I have mentioned previously are common it is better to take steps to avoid them. For example to avoid pollen keep away from exposure to pollen which are more in the air during early morning and in the evening. So avoid going outside during these times. With respect to dust mites, you need to keep your surroundings clean, especially your beds, pillows and mattresses. Regularly get them washed and dried. You should make out which food stuffs can cause running nose and avoid them. Generally avoid too spicy food and other food stuff you think is contributing. Last but not least, avoid exposure to very cold environment and avoid too much of stress and emotional deviations.

As for treatment with medicines and nasal sprays, you need to be examined by either an ENT specialist or an allergist. If you are in Bangalore, you can visit my clinic too and I shall do the needful.
