Brief Answer:
May need ultrasound or MRI of swelling

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be due to hernia or hydrocele but further evaluation by a surgeon can be helpful. Sometimes epididymo-orchitis may present like this so ultrasound testes and pelvis, as well as urine and semen analysis, may be needed.

Sometimes hydrocele may be present and spontaneously recover. Using tight underwear to support and avoid hanging loosely can be helpful to reduce swelling.

You can use OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen which can help with inflammation as well as will give symptomatic relief.

Now, as per your description, the urologist may have found it to be benign which is why may not want to treat it but it's always safe to get it investigated and a second opinion may be sought afterward.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Hernia recurrence is an established complication

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. Yes it can be a possibility as hernia recurrence is an established complication however any other associated trauma to surrounding structures like lymphatic drainage can cause swelling. Repeat ultrasound can be helpful with rest of the management plan as we have already discussed. Regards
