Greetings. I Am Now 65, And Have Been Taking 10mg
Question: Greetings. I am now 65, and have been taking 10mg of Lisonopril for one year every morning. I find that my pressure gets to ideal levels (130/85 or lower) in the afternoon and evening, but is higher in the morning hours (160/80). My doctor has prescribed starting HALF of one tablet of Metoprolol 25 mg at bedtime every evening because she says the Lisinopril is not lowering the pressure sufficiently for the morning. She says to check my BP each day in the morning. If after 1 week there is no sufficient change, she said I should then move to a full capsule each night. Can you explain how all this should work technically with each of these drugs, since originally one 10 mg Lisinopril each day was intended to be sufficient? Thank you.

Actually antihypertensive medicines reduces blood pressure in different patients differently.
Effect of antihypertensive medicine changes with age of the patient and weight of the patient and sometimes body's response to the antihypertensive drug.
For example for you lisinopril 10 mg was working adequately initially, but it may not work in other individual similarly.
Means this medicine was working properly for you initially but now with changing age or changing body response to the medicine, this drug is not able to control your blood pressure.
There is nothing to worry about.
Usually in many patients this happens.
Your doctor has rightly added the medicine and yes with time dose and frequency of medicine may change to control your blood pressure.
Antihypertensive medicines are of different classes.
Lisinopril is ACE inhibitors class of drug.
While metoprolol is beta adrenergic blocker.
So when to different classes of drugs are used, better antihypertensive effect is seen.
