Question: Good evening Dr.
I am a 47 year old male in good physical fitness.
I was recently taken to A&E at a UK hospital. I had intermittent pains in my calves, ankles and inner thighs (almost like a short stabbing pain up my legs). I also had severe chest pain. This was worse after a couple of long haul flights but the pains in my legs had been going on a few weeks previous to the flights. Drs and nurses were fantastic. I had a blood test for blood clots? A chest X-ray and CT scan of chest with a XXXXXXX My blood test came back normal and the scans were ok. I’m still getting pain in my legs intermittently which is waking me up at night. Can I be content that the hospital tests can rule out blood clots and associated risks at the time they were conducted? Many thanks for your time.

Brief Answer:
You need few more things to be tested for

Detailed Answer:
Hi Somerset1611,
Thank you for the query.Ounderstand your concern.
I have read your query carefully &think that...
* Apart from the tests you had undergone, following specific tests are needful to give you clean chit from the possible pathology OR find the basic cause followed by specific management &prevent further progress of the problem.
-A detailed general examination & needful pathological tests
- Raised blood pressure /diabetes can cause such symptoms,So detailed examination &investigations in relation to these conditions should be carried out
- Possibility of coronary artery disease tested (by conducting simple ECG,stress test, angiography ... if indicated) & periferal artery disease (by 4D USG of lower limbs or MRI of the part) can be defined/excluded .
-Possibility of spinal disc problems to be excluded by X-ray or MRI as per need
Consultation of a general physician to start with followed by advise by expert heart specialist is needed for these
*I would suggest,
-Earliest consultation if pain still persists.
- to take rest.avoid psychological or physical stress
-Hot or cold compress to painful legs along with over the counter pill (Ibuprofen)
-No massage to leg... till you see physician.
Hope that helps.Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
