Question: God Afternoon, I am nervous because I have been too different hospitals and they have said the same thing about my body, ok so I recently had tiny little blisters form on my left top side of the clitoral hood of my vagina and I put neosporin on it and it went away and has been gone for over 3 months but it came back again and in the same exact spot and I put neosporin on it again and it formed a scab and it just fell off yesterday and now its is red and I just want to know what it is... My sister thinks it could be a boil?? I am sexually active with my par8and I want to make sure it's not a STD. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Brief Answer:
Genital herpes could be possible- further explanations below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service,

I read your query, reviewed the picture carefully and understand your concern. Genital lesions in sexually active patients should raise the suspicion of sexually transmitted diseases.

Tinny genital blisters that reoccur in the same area are generally caused by herpes genitalis. This is mainly STD and is generally diagnosed by history and examining the patient (identifying the type of blisters). In unclear cases, a culture sensitivity study of the secretions may be indicated (this is rarely needed).

Herpes sleeps in the nerves and may become active time after time recurring in the same area. At the moment, because the lesion is fading, no treatment is needed.

I would advise you to have tests for other STDs as generally STDs travel together. Blood tests for Hepatitis B, syphilis, cervical secretions for chlamydia and gonorrhea are recommended to rule out these infections and be on the safer side.

Pap smears are important as well as routine checks. Your partner may need to be checked as well.

Neosporin locally is not effective for herpes infection, Acyclovir ointment is the antiviral that may ease the symptoms from a herpes virus infection.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Kind regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
