Question: For the past 4 or 5 days, I have been having lower abdominal pain that radiates down the pelvic muscles and toward the inside and back of my left thigh. I am 52, and have had no problems with my reproductive organs. I have had two normal pregnancies with the exception of a slightly elevated blood pressure in the first. I am in perimenopause and have not had a period in many months

Brief Answer:
Also consider renal stones in the list of possibilities...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Crampy pain that radiates from the lower abdomen to the pelvis and back of leg can also be caused by kidney stones. I would like to know:
1. How long are you been having the pain?
2. Can you describe the type of pain - a dull ache or crampy pain?
3. Is the pain present bilaterally or on one side (which side)
4. Do you have any problem while passing urine - pain/burning sensation / increased frequency?
5. Do you have loose stools?
6. Any fever?

Awaiting answers to aforementioned questions....

Regards

1. 4 or 5 days
2. The pain feels like an ache more than, say, menstrual cramps. Once in a while, it is sharp. It is tender to the touch.
3. It is only on the left side.
4. I am not sure of the pain when I urinate. I do not have severe pain, but there is a very slight burning sensation upon completion.
5. I have had my gallbladder removed, so loose stools are not uncommon to me, but I have not noticed a clear difference.
6. I have no fever.

Brief Answer:
Kidney stones strong contender...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Ureteric colic secondary to renal stone is a strong contender to the diagnosis based on details provider. Urine routine analysis and an ultrasound scan are couple of test useful to confirm the condition. You should plan a visit to a doctor and get the aforementioned tests done.

In the interim, drink plenty of water. Tylenol pain relief tablet can be eased to ease the pain - it isn't the drug of choice but a helpful over the counter resource. The rest of treatment will be prescribed upon the doctor visit.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
