Question: First let me say if you are not a pediatrician do not answer this.

My 6 year old boy is complaining of back pain. I Google it and of course it says crazy bad stuff and now my mind is racing. Wonder is that something I need to be worried about. Sorry I should expand. This only started maybe a week ago. He reaches over and grabs like the back of his right shoulder blade. It’s right on the shoulder blade or right under it. Not sure what could have caused it. Some days he doesn’t mention it and some days he said it hurts. I asked him yesterday if it hurt him at all and he said no. He sleeps find and seems to hurt him later in the day. There is a number it things that come up when you Google child 6 year old and back pain that says red flags etc.

He normally sleeps in his bed and has been sleeping on the floor latley. Maybe this could have caused it.

He had been playing or having baseball practice 3 days a week starting a couple weeks ago too. Sometimes he can say his back doesn’t hurt during the day but after 2 hours of baseball he grabs his back right shoulder blade area saying it hurts.

No fever, no cough, no redness or swelling. Sometimes he just reaches over with his right shoulder blade area saying it hurts right there. The pain is not constant either.

Brief Answer:
Don't worry, Get him examined by a physiotherapist

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on this platform

I am a pediatric cardiologist but a pediatrician first and hope this will help you.
I have gone through the details and do understand your concern. What I understood from the detail that this pain is not exactly the back pain which usually means pain in spine.
Here as pain is not constant, site is under the shoulder blade, more at the end of day and sometimes aggravated by playing basket ball(started a couple of weeks ago).
In basket ball the right hand that too shoulder joint plays the main role in right hand dominant child.
So what I concluded that he must be making some wrong movement causing strain on muscle or tendon leading to this pain or discomfort.
Here I would suggest you to visit a physiotherapist for clinical examination and to find the muscle or tendon involved and also to check, which wrong movement is the culprit. Avoidance of that particular movement will help.Hot fomentation or some mild analgesic will help if pain is significant.
Please visit the physiotherapist when the child complains of pain or discomfort so that the examination will elicit the best findings.
Please let me know if you have any more doubt.
Thanks and regards

Thank you. Yes he plays baseball. He has started his baseball season roughly 3 weeks ago. He practices 6 hours a week and throws right handed. His pain is in or slightly below his right shoulder blade. He sleeps well and is well almost all day and it “seems” it is exacerbated after he throws baseball.
