Dr. I Went To The Dermatologist And He Removed What

Question: Dr.

I went to the dermatologist and he removed what he called a large sebacacous cyst the size of a Kumquat from my mid back...you thought earlier it might be an infection.

Here's my question...albeit it was sent to the lab...the dr said no worries...so can the dr simply look at what he removed and tell its a cyst?

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Regarding a sebaceous cyst

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your follow up.
I did keep a differential of an infected sebaceous cyst. A sebaceous cyst is quite common on the back and it may gradually increase in size. Though usually painless, it may sometimes get infected and thus become painful. A sebaceous cyst is quite obvious on removal. A biopsy would just document it.

take care
