Question: have stage 5 renal failure. Can I take Neurontin and or gabapentin be taken for pain

You are wondering if you can use gabapentin or Neurontin for pain if you have renal failure. I would recommend not to use it because of the high risk of toxicity. You can use it but you would need to be on low doses and closely monitored for side effects and toxicity. Gabapentin is excreted 100 percent from the kidneys and if you have renal failure you can build up high toxic levels quickly
