Do You Recommend A Colonoscopy For Cecal Diverticulitis ?

Question: dr --

1. I was diagnosed with Cecal diverticulitis recently at ER, I had fever and pain in right side of my stomach
2. I was prescribed antibiotics and dicyclomine, for spasms
3. generally how long does it take to get past this diagnosis?
4. are there any cancer risks associated with this diagnosis?
5. do you recommend a colonoscopy ?

Hi,
No colonoscopy is required as CT ABDOMEN is the gold standard test for diverticulitis.
Diverticulitis is an infection and has no relation with cancer or risk of cancer.
However pain should be on left lower side as diverticula is present there.
I would take almost a month for complete recovery.
Course of antibiotic should be given for 21 to 28 days.
