Dear Doctor, I Had A Terrible Sore Throat Just Over

Question: Dear Doctor,

I had a terrible sore throat just over a week ago, it was so terrible that everywhere in my mouth broke out in soreness. All my gums were very sore too and I was gagging with salt water throughout.

I couldn't eat properly it was very painful and even drinking and swallowing was a problem. It was awful.

Thank goodness this has gone now and am healed up but the aftermath is a funny dry feeling in my mouth like a roughness to my taste bud.

This is worse at night when my throat would be so dry and closed up, that it looks like I have been too many months of dehydration.

And when I am eating too, my tongue doesn't feel normal again. it's like it's coated with this roughness especially at the tip and all the way.
But I can still taste the food though but just funny metallic feeling.

Please what could be causing this?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. You had an acute tonsillitis or acute pharyngitis previously. After the episode all the infection has got settled and now you are having dryness of mouth and metallic taste. There are many causes of soreness of throat with mouth ulcers. Most of the bacterial and they cause serious inflammation of the oral cavity. Sometimes these inflammation can cause ulceration of peeling of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. When the healing starts after the infection has subsided then the ulcerated or eroded mucous membrane gets dried up. That's why you are feeling like dehydration. The taste buds of the tongue also needs some time to heal and regenerate. This cause metallic taste in your mouth. It's all part of healing process. So try to drink more water, juice. Take more citrus fruits rich in vitamin c and vitamin a. These will enhance your healing. Don't take too much hot food as it may cause pain. You can start vitamin b complex tablet along with it. Do betadine gargle as it will prevent further infection. Please review if you have any queries.
