Brief Answer:
Body absorbs sulfur from supplements.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Body has various means to detoxify the effects of toxins and heavy metals through antioxidants. We require good amount of antioxidants for detoxification and sulfur containing antioxidants like glutathione is one such essential element.

Body depends on dietary sources to fulfill its sulfur requirements. Fish, beef, poultry and meat are excellent sources of sulfur. Other sources include eggs, legumes, brussel sprouts, XXXXXXX garlic. Sulfur contained in these products are absorbed from small intestines. Adding them in your diet regularly, keeps your sulfur stores in adequate quantity and thereby help in the formation of cysteine which is essential in glutathione formation.
Besides these dietary products there are various claims that you can absorb from Epsom salt baths or mineral spa. Since I am unaware of its benefits, I usually recommend dietary means to add sulfur to my patients.

That being said, as you try sulfur for detoxification, I would also suggest you visit a rheumatologist first. Since you are having morning joint stiffness, you might be suffering from osteoarthritis which are to be treated differently.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any queries, I will be happy to help you.

Thank you

Thank you Dr Nalaparaju, for your great answer. I don't eat meat much but I do eat some fish, and certainly eat lots of brussel sprouts, XXXXXXX and garlic. And I need to remember to take fish oil for joints. I know i have osteoporosis, but will find out if i have arthritis too. I also think I need to look into a new bed, mine is too soft.

I will ask you more questions if I think of any
