Reason I'm especially concerned- my family doctor said it might be a form of Leukemia- CLL. Also I have a tooth that my dentist said a year ago was infected and should be extracted- I haven't done it- because there hasn't been any pain- could there be a connection here with WBC. I should note wbc elevation is only about 5 points over normal. HOW WORRIED SHOULD I BE?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In both conditions, wbcs can be raised.
But I case OF LL, blast cells would be raised, which can be seen in test called, comment on peripheral smear.
In tooth infection, this would be normal.

I Hope Your Query is clear now.
Thank You.

QUESTION RE: "In case of CLL Blast cells would be raised, which can be seen in test called, comment on peripheral smear"
I don't quite follow this: Is the required test a "CBC" a complete blood count that would establish whether CLL is present or not?

I understand part about Fungal and tooth infection being able to raise WBC. In my case it went up only 5 points. Not a huge increase.

Hi

Welcome To Ask A Doctor Service

Only cbc does not diagnose or rule out cll.
Need comments on peripheral smear.
And yes infection can increase wbc.
But get comment on peripheral smear done.
I Hope Your Query is clear now.
Thank You
