Can One Contract HIV Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: I gave oral sex to a woman for 15 minutes and im concerned about HIV. We didn't have sexual intercourse. I don't know if she has and STIs or HIV. My main worry is the fact I have slight gum disease. (my gums bleed slightly when I brush. The gums on the front of my teeth never bleed its just the gum on the backs of my teeth slightly bleed sometimes. When I gave her oral sex i hadn't brushed my teeth for about 10 hours. so hopefully no fresh bleed. Whats the chance of HIv getting into my system this way ?

Brief Answer:
The chances of getting HIV are very rare.

Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

Welcome to HCM.

The risk of getting HIV from oral sex is very less as compared to vaginal or anal sex because human saliva contains an enzyme which inhibits growth of HIV virus so the chances in your case are also very remote or you can consider practically nil.

The exact figure is not available related to oral sex risk in getting HIV. Even CDC XXXXXXX is also saying that the risk is low so you need not to bother much, forget about the incidence and move on in life.

Thank You

so even if the girl did have HIV (which i don't know) would the fact my gums bleed a little could the HIV have not entered via this route. The woman wasn't on her period as far as im aware as no blood anywhere i could see to the naked eye.

Brief Answer:
Yes the risk is very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

The risk is very unlikely with such exposure even if the partner is HIV positive. You can go for HIV test to relieve your anxiety or fear after one month. Till then just relax your self and move ahead in life.

Thank You
