Can Iron Supplements Cause Stomach Upset?
Question: Hello,
I hane HB of around 9% and I am taking Autrin capsules. But, my stomach is upst for the whole day and not feeling hungry at all. Is this due to the capsul I had?
If this is not recommendable, what is the alternative? Kindly suggest......

Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Iron supplements can give upset stomach. For this you have to take it just after meals. This will decrease the irritation.
Autrin capsule is good to take. But if you cant tolerate even after taking it with food then you can ask your doctor to switch on to tablet form or drops. The current one you are taking is ferrous fumerate which can be changed to ferrous gluconate or sulphate. One may tolerate well to gluconate other may tolerate to sulphate and some for fumerate. So it is different for each person. So switching on to other can be tried.
Polysaccharide iron complex like niferex capsules are reported as tolerating well. You can ask your doctor for these.
You can take red meat and citrus fruits also. If you take more leafy vegetables also your stomach upset can increase.

I have HypoThyroidism, and TSH component is 6.0
I am taking Eltroxin 25mcg empty stomach,
and after food, I am taking Autrin tab.
Will these both tablets eliminate HypoThyroidism and increase HB %
respectively?
Or do I need to have more tablets?

You can continue eltroxine and autrin. More tablets are not needed. Have regular follow up test and follow up with your doctor. After starting you should have follow up after 6 weeks. Eltroxine dosage can be increased if necessary at that time.

I am planning for child in next 2 to 3 months.
Whether HB % need to be in more amount for that? (10% at present I have)
Until thyroid is in control, cannot I plan for baby.(Hypothyroidism at 6.0 now)

or, whether by 2-3 months, this problem will be resolved by continuing dosage of both Eltroxin and Autrin....(currently I am using from past 1 month)and can plan by next subsequent month say Feb 2016?
