Can Hormone Replacement Drugs Cause Blood Clotting Post Hip Replacement Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Sep 2017
Question: My wife just had hip replacement surgery on Wednesday. The surgeon has recommended she not take her hormone replacement drug. The concern is blood clotting. She has sever uterine contractions and bad nausea. She cannot leave the hospital until this passes. What is the risk of her taking her hormone treatment vs clotting.Should she take an anti clotting drug along with the replacement therapy?

Thanks you

Brief Answer:
She MUST NOT take this hormonal replacement at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

Your wife must not take this hormone at this time. The risk is too much to dare. Hip surgery is one of the biggest risk and combining with hormones makes it unbearable and uncomfortable for any health professional to undertake.

While she can go through uncomfortable symptoms, she will not be able to go through all severe accidents related to blood clot.

I hope this makes it clear why the risk is too much to take. Let me know if you have any further worries.
