Brief Answer:
It can be contracted with oral sex

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

Having oral sex with a man which is infected with HSV 2 can transmit it to you even though chances are greater if you have vaginal sex rather than oral sex.
In order to get pregnant you can have sex when your partner is asymptomatic and chances of contracting it are low . Still you can contract it.
If he is taking oral antiviral medications the chances of transmitting it to you are lower.
So have sex in asymptomatic period and he can use antiviral if he has the rash.

Hope I have answered the question.

Thank you Dr. Olgeta.

When giving oral is there less chance of transmission if he has a condom on?

So if wanting kids then we can have unprotected sex if the symptoms are asymptomatic? I do understand there is still risk but it is lower with the use of oral medicine?

Do you feel oral medicine or ointments are more effective? Do you have resources where I can check the pros and cons of each?

When you say antiviral for the rash do you mean ointments or oral medicine?

Brief Answer:
See the detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Having a condom on while you are having oral you can have less chances of HSV 2.
Trying for a baby you can have intercourse when he has no symptoms, no rash or sores .
Oral antivirals are more effective than ointment.
There is no need for pros and cons research because it is clear that oral antivirals are more effective.
