Can A Bone Scan Detect Metastatic Prostate Cancer?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: what questions should I ask ? I have a bone scan test coming, what the worst thing that can happen? Is there a death rate for prostate cancer? My PSA has historically has been around 4,5 also, I have had numerous MRI done over the last - 12 to 18 months, why didn't the MRI show prostate? If I did nothing, what will happen and over what time frame?

Brief Answer:
Bone scan reveals spread of prostate cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on your high PSA level(11.4) your Urologist has advised bone scan .

Prostate cancer spreads to bones hence bone scan is the first test suggested to rule out or to confirm the whether it has spread to bones suggesting high grade and advanced stage cancer of prostate so as to plan the modality of treatment .

Prostate cancer is a slow growing cancer and patient with prostate cancer usually dies due to other illness rather than prostate cancer itself and with negative bone scan patient of cancer of prostate can survive for many years .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
