Can I Use Emergency Contraceptive Pills While Breastfeeding?

default
Posted on Fri, 28 Jul 2023
Question: Is ECP dose safe with breastfeeding? In my country contraplan 2 is available for emergency contraception but I'm breastfeeding and in the drugstore I was told it is not suitable while breastfeeding.
Is there any alternative in case ECP is not safe for my child I'm feeding?

Would you please get me a swift reply, I'm asking about something that will make a difference with time.

Brief Answer:
No effect on breastfeeding

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg is safe to take while breastfeeding as an emergency contraceptive.

It should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is least likely to have any effect on the amount of breast milk and do not have any adverse effects on the baby.

You can get any brand like I pill, unwanted 72 or the one available in your country.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I searched on their website

That's what was written:
SHOULD I STOP BREASTFEEDING AFTER TAKING CONTRAPLANII??
Yes, you should stop breastfeeding for 8 hours after taking ContraplanII.

Brief Answer:
No effect

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I will request you to go through the PDF leaflet of the Contraplan II.

It is clearly mentioned that there are no adverse effects on breastfeeding by the single time intake of the emergency contraceptive pill.

Hope I have answered your query.
