Posted on Mon, 27 Nov 2023
Question: I have the same question as the person below, but I am on lower doses of both Lexapro (5mg) and Azithromycin (250mg). I took 500mg of Azithromycin last night but will now take only 250mg per day for a total of 4 more days. I have no history of heart palpitations nor heart issues. Is it okay for me to finish the course of Azithromycin?

Brief Answer:
You may safely finish the course on Azythromycin while on 5mg Lexapro

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Lexapro (escitalopram) is an antidepressant medicine that belongs to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) group. Lexapro has fewer side effects comparing to other SSRI medicines and less reported drug interactions.
Azythromycin may increase blood levels of Lexapro, which may cause side effects. As you are taking low dose of Lexapro (5mg), it should not cause any side effects. You may safely take the course of azythromycin.

But, if you have drowsiness, insomnia, headache, nausea and diarrhea Lexapro should be decreased. These side effects is not very likely with 5 mg of Lexapro, but you should be aware of them.

Hope, this information is helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.

Wish you good health.
Regards.
