Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HealthcareMagic!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that Hydrochlorothiazide can lower potassium levels, while Benicar helps increase them.

I would just recommend taking potassium supplements or food rich in potassium ( banana, potatoes, plums, etc.).

If low potassium levels persist, you should discuss with your doctor on stopping hydrochlorothiazide.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Is Potassium Level the same as Sodium Level?

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Sodium is a different electrolyte, other than potassium.

Regarding Hydrochlorothiazide and sodium, I would explain that the main mechanism of action of this drug is to lower the absorption of sodium in the kidney. This may lead to low sodium levels.

But the reduction of sodium intake (which is the main component of salt), may contribute in this clinical scenario.

An excessive intake of water and low salt intake can also lead to low sodium levels.

A possible treatment option in this case would be to reduce fluids intake. This would lead to concentration of plasma and raise in sodium plasma levels.

Another option would be stopping hydrochlorothiazide. Your actual blood pressure are normal. So, you can try stopping this drug, without being afraid of any possible significant raise in your blood pressure values. This will help also raise sodium levels.

Hope to have clarified some of your uncertainties!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
