Posted on Fri, 3 Feb 2017
Question: My sister had been taking a form of fosamax for years. (she is 76) Last year she tried to have a tooth
implanted and ended up with a horrible infection in her gums. Now her doctor tries to put her back on and I am trying to talk her out of it.

Brief Answer:
Are you of the opinion that fosamax caused this infection?

Detailed Answer:
HI,

Fosamax is not known to cause tooth infection. However, it can cause necrosis of the oro-facial bones. If this was strictly an infection, I will say fosamax has nothing to do with it and we should not stop. If you ask the doctors and they think this way caused by fosamax, we should clearly not to use it again.

But before we conclude, can you confirm that for sure this was an infection or a side effect of fosamax by asking your doctor ? My final recommendation would take this into account.

I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Kind Regards
