Can DVT Cause Calf Pain Along With Weight Loss And Back Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Jul 2023
Question: For the last 4 nights, my wife has been awakened with right calf pain. And discomfort today when walking. No swelling, warmth or redness. Should she be checked out soon for DVT? Did not seem to be a cramp. Also some PC symptoms ...weight loss, back pain. Could the calf pain be related? CT of abdomen tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Surely, yes as discussed below.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Yes, calf pain should be checked for DVT as an early diagnosis helps to have better outcome of management.

Dine the pain in the right calf is only at night for the past 4 nights without any swelling, warmth and redness this may most probably be restless leg syndrome; although this needs to be confirmed by ruling out DVT.

Weight loss can have many reasons at the age of 76. CT scan of the abdomen helps to find out the cause in the abdomen.

Back pain may be related to the calf pain as the slipped disc can cause local pain as well as referred pain to the calf area.

Discomfort in the calf on walking today raises the alarm. Till then keep her well hydrated, may give her painkillers, give complete rest to the affected part.

Get the investigations like color doppler of the lower limb and related blood tests.

Please post the report of the CT scan of the abdomen which will be done tomorrow.

I hope this answer helps.

Take care.
