Can Clindamycin Be Given Body Tremors While On Ciprofloxacin For UTI?

Question: My mother was given ciprofloxacin for a uti which gave her the "shakes". She reacted very well to the medication. The antibiotic finished and everything was fine. She has started with the shaking again and we
have clindamycin on hand. Can it be used for her problem? She has recurring uti's and will probably need
antibiotics for the remainder of her life. She's 95 and in very good health.

Brief Answer:
Medication less management is preferred

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

At this age I suggest very few medications to manage minor UTI's if it is recurring. They tend to find resistance quickly. Although clindamycin may help I prefer not to use it unless there is temperature and body pains.
If she has temperature and other problems getting out of bed, you may go ahead with antibiotic use. Let her empty the bladder frequently by giving her urine can near to the bed. That stops the growth of organism in the bladder which is the ground for recurrence. If there is no fever or other symptoms Cranberry juices help. PotKlor (Potassium chloride) syrup helps alkalinizing the urine and stops the growth.

Hope this helps.
