Are Pelvic Pressure Followed By Urination Or Bowel Movement Due To Hysterectomy Surgery?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2022
Question: 63 yr old female with Lumbar laminectomy for spinal stenosis and disectomy L3-4, L4-5 due to rupture and obliteration 12 weeks ago,. No pain following surgery. Starting week five, started feeling pelvic pressure with BM or urination before and after. I had total hysterectomy 14 months ago and breast cancer 2008. Went to GYN this week who ruled out UTI and pelvic floor weakness. Is this a result of the surgery?

Brief Answer:
Detailed information below.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The pelvic pressure before &after defication in your case could be-
- Digestive disturbance following post operative medication &destroying normal intestinal flora./added bowel infection. All of this leading to increased bloating(due to collected gas in bowels) causing strong perstalsis &pelvic pressure....
- Possible diabetic neuropathy.. if you have diabetes.
- Possible irritation of muscles & ligaments of pelvis could be due to trapped/pressed tissue or nerve in the scar... showing the symptoms as you started moving about .
- Some pelvic mass (possibly secondary to breast cancer)pressing the nerve causing muscle
contractions & cause pressure.
- Possible bladder irritation &infection post operatively... though UTI has been excluded.
* Though the things need to be ruled out/diagnosed &specifically treated under supervision of operating surgeon...& it will be done at the time of check up,you can try to solve digestive problem on your own.
* - Eat less of starchy food... which create excessive gas. Drink sufficient water.
- Take dietary suppliment with Lactobacillus preparation over the counter.
- Add digestive enzymes available over the counter to help digestion.

I feel that will help you. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
