Are Ear Ache, Headache And Tingling In Hands Signs Of Brain Tumour?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Apr 2016
Question: Could this be a brain tumour?

It started with earache and general feeling of being spaced out around 2 months ago. My ear drums are still fully retracted and I wake with a headache each day. Around a month ago I developed tingling in my hands and feet, this is pretty constant and present in them all at the same time. I've also had a lot of muscle twitching. I've had bloods done for infections and all have come back clear. I now also have been getting sharp abdominal pains that tingle my back, although my dr thinks this is something different. I'm currently waiting for organ scans.

Thanks for getting back to me.

1) the headache usually lasts around half an hour each morning. I can however feel it quite often throughout the day but it is dull.

2) once the headache woke me up but this was around 4 weeks ago. It hasn't happened again.

3) I haven't seen an ENT. I've had the ears checked over by two GPs who both suspected fluid in the ear from a previous middle or inner ear infection which was causing the retracted ear drums. I can pop my ears using the valvasave manoeuvre but they return to negative pressure again quickly.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
ENT evaluation/CECT Brain

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX porteous,
Thanks for being in follow-up with further details.

Considering your clinical details,I suggest that you should undergo a contrast enhanced CT scan of brain to rule out any intracranial abnormalities. Though headache appears to be primary in nature, but secondary brain related causes(brain tumor is one of them) should be ruled out.

Secondly, you must undergo a formal ear examination by an ENT specialist because chronic infections of ear may extent to the brain and can lead to worse consequences like brain abscess. So, it must be detected and treated in time.In that case,it becomes even more important to get a contrast CT done to rule out brain infection.

Hope this helps. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to answer.
