Question: Hi, I am 7weeks pregnant Dr advised me to take Mifeprin kit due to baby was not grown. I have taken the Mifepristone tablet orally yesterday (07/03/16) at around 12 o clk. Today I started with mild pain to heavy pain. Suddenly I got my periods all of the sudden. But still I dint take The Misoprostol tablet.. Is this is normal? Is this the symptoms of getting abortion? Can you please help me with is query?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) You must undergo medical termination of pregnancy under supervision of local doctor and it will be helpful in emergency situation also.

Upon taking Mifeprin kit, abdominal cramp and vaginal bleeding will start anytime between 24 to 72 hrs or as soon as possible.

2) As your vaginal bleeding is already started, I suggest to take 2 Misoprostol tablets orally to COMPLETE the abortion process. Within 72 hrs, most women will start to miscarry (flesh mass or product of conception will be expelled out) and light bleeding may continue till next 7 days.

3) Pelvic ultrasound scan may be required additionally after 1 week of abortion completed. Around 5% women may need D & C or suction (surgical method) to evacuate the uterine cavity in the failure of medical abortion. Repeat dose of medicine may be given to complete abortion process before undergoing D & C.
