Question: After my knee replacement surgery, my leg is almost an inch longer than my other leg. It causes pain in my hip, lower back and groin. My primary told me not to put a lift in my shoe. I don’t understand why. I walk like I have one shoe on and one shoe off What can I do to relieve the pain?

Brief Answer:
I suggest to build up the shoe of the shorter leg.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is very common for patients with knee replacement surgery to feel that one leg is longer than the other.
I am very sorry that you are still in pain.
I suggest to build up the shoe of the shorter leg.
I also suggest to use painkillers for the pain such as Ibuprofen.
If the pain continues, you may reconsider surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!

Hi again dear,

If your query relates to the pain relief I suggest:
-Use painkillers such as Ibuprofen 600 mg three times a day.
-If the pain continues, I suggest to use prescription painkillers such as Oxycodone.
-I also suggest to build up the shoe of the shorter leg and avoid heavy lifts.

Hope my answer was helpful.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is indicated to even the leg length

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

In case that the shoe lift is not indicated, another possible option to even the leg length is surgery.
In this case, you should consult with an orthopedist for better evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!
