Brief Answer:
Clots are quite common, and even though they look scary, most of the time there is nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service,

Thank you for your query and the uploaded photo. I carefully checked them.

It is very common for women to have clots with their periods. Sometimes, the clots may be big and very scary but most of the time it is nothing to worry about. The inner layer of the womb falls down with the periods and a lot of blood may come out and also tissue which may mix together and clot.

In rare cases, clots and tissue-like structures may come out in the case of early abortion, of course, if you had a delayed period and now you are bleeding profusely. If you did not have a delayed period then this is unlikely.

Also, if you have bleeding in other areas of your body such as blood with stools, blood with the urine, non-blanching red skin spots, bruises, easily bleeding gums or bleeding nose, then you will have to let your doctor know and have some tests to make sure that the bleeding time and coagulation time and related tests are normal.

To conclude:

- Most of the time when clots are passed this is normal and there is nothing to worry about.
- If you had a delayed period and you had excruciating pain and then you passed clots, an early abortion can be the cause but this is very rarely the case (probably a urinary pregnancy test would tell if this is the case)
- If you bleed in other areas as mentioned above, please see your doctor. Other conditions should be ruled out and blood tests are needed for this.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
