53 Year Old Female, I Had A Colonoscopy 8 Years

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Jun 2020
Question: 53 year old female, I had a colonoscopy 8 years ago, always suffered from gastro issues but was told it was IBS. Doctor says I need to wait 10 years for next colonoscopy ,my results were clean except for hemmoroids. Every once in a while I get flare ups which are really bad in which I need to have a bowl movement 4 to 5 times a day. It feels like I constantly need to go. Hemmoroids do not bleed or itch and external. Just wondering if the feeling which happens is from hemmoroids or something else, it seems to get worse as I get older. Doctor thinks it just hemmoroids.

Brief Answer:
Rule out gluten sensitivity and Inflammatory bowel disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting us with your health concern.

The symptoms you are experiencing is concerning for possible inflammatory bowel disease and gluten sensitivity, which can flare up in the 50s in some individuals.
At this point, I would recommend getting stool microscopy, and blood investigations to check the level of inflammatory markers (ESR, CRP) and Biomarkers (like an anti-gliadin antibody, cANCA, and pANCA). If these investigation results suggest the possibility of inflammatory bowel disease/gluten sensitivity, then a colonoscopic biopsy will be required.
Please follow up with your primary provider to get the initial evaluation done.
