Red purplish swollenleg and ankles (both side) may be due to diabetes, renal problems , heart ailments and simple infection.
Get in blood for C B C , ESR ( CHRONIC INFECTION), serum creatinine ( kidney), sugar ,lipid profile ( thrombosis).
Since 9 moths passed , so consult a physician get his opinion.

Soak it in hot water. Take an over the counter pain med like ibuprofen and elevate the leg while resting.
