Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has had severe diorhea for 55 hours now, unable to eat. Took to hospital last night and told us he is not dehydrated. We are convinced it is caused by the new drug he has been taking since Wednesday. He has been taking cyclosporine for a year now and has reduce this and added azathioprine.
Azathioprine is a drug used to treat various rheumatological diseases. Its use is also associated with diarrhea. I suggest to consult with his doctor about this side effect of azathioprine.
Usually, I advise my patients who are using Azathioprine to take it after eating or I usually prescribe it in two divided doses. He can try this too if it helps.
I also advise to: - give him plenty of water - give otc ors - take probiotics
Hope it was of help! Dr.Albana
