Posted on Wed, 8 Nov 2017
Question: I'm 91 years old and have lost my sense of taste. I take a lot of drugs; e.g., sinemet, metropol, midodrine, cerofolin, atorvastin, zinc, iron, et al.

Also, I've been diagnosed with erosive pustular dermatosis. and have been told there's no cure. Is that so
Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Loss of taste is likely to be a side effect of medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being at HealthcareMagic,

I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.

Your loss of taste sensation seems to be a side effect of the medicines you are taking.

Unfortunately, it cannot be corrected completely but should respond to multivitamins and iron tablets.

As far as erosive pustular dermatoses are concerned you can apply potent topical steroid like clobetasol propionate cream or betamethasone cream on the affected areas.

Other options that can be used are topical tacrolimus, topical Retinoids, topical Calcipotriol, oral retinoids and oral Cyclosporine.
These have shown variable results in different individuals.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr Asmeet
