Pneumonia can be due to bacteria or virus and less commonly due to fungus or parasites whereas PTB is due to mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Bacterial pneumonia generally resolves within 5-7 days with antibiotics whereas viral and fungal causes need antiviral and antifungal treatment respectively.
PTB need anti T.B treatment and it needs treatment for 6-9 months.

Does PTB mean Pulmonary Tuberculosis? Pleural TB is considered extra-pulmonary in USA and intra-pulmonary in UK. A pleural thickening usually means fibrosis of pleura after an inflammation. Thus it is old and extra-pulmonary.
