Torn MCL, Damaged Cartilage And Meniscus. Knee Brace Suggested. Any Treatment Other Than This?

I completely tore my mcl, Lcl and acl 7 weeks ago Also damaged my meniscus and another cartilage 60 years old. No pivot sports so doc feels no surgery needed Physical therapist says my muscle strength improving well after 3 weeks of therapy. Then, met with doc on Monday and he said I will need to wear a knee brace all the time for rest of life. I was shocked and depressed. When I then said I did not want to wear a brace forever and would be open to surgery, doc seemed very reluctant to discuss surgerybas an option. I would appreciate any thoughts you can share.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Wear brace for few days till you seek opinion of some knee surgeon to prevent further damage and your surgeon shall decide after MRI or arthroscopy whether reconstruction of ligaments is possible, to my mind it is possible using graft from own body tissues(ilio tibial band,or some muscle tendon) or by By a procedure called LARS(ligament augmented reconstruction surgery) in which carbon filament is sewed on damaged ligament bridging the gap and which makes healthy tissue grow to fill the gap, patient is mo bile as early as 6 weeks after LARS and conventional body graft takes as long as 3- to 6 months for mobility.
Meniscal injury can be assessed on MRI or arthroscopy and dealt with during ligament surgery itself, if still viable with some intact blood supply, can be repaired otherwise can be excised.
