What do you mean by left infrahilar pneumonia versus PTB
Thanks for writing to HCM
Pneumonia can be due to bacteria or virus and less commonly due to fungus or parasites whereas PTB is due to mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Bacterial pneumonia generally resolves within 5-7 days with antibiotics whereas viral and fungal causes need antiviral and antifungal treatment respectively.
PTB need anti T.B treatment and it needs treatment for 6-9 months.
Im an expat living in UAE. I had pleural eff. 6 yrs back, treated and fine till now. xray show pleurl thickng in rt lung. Will it b taken as old PTB or ExtrPTB
Does PTB mean Pulmonary Tuberculosis? Pleural TB is considered extra-pulmonary in USA and intra-pulmonary in UK. A pleural thickening usually means fibrosis of pleura after an inflammation. Thus it is old and extra-pulmonary.
