I am a surgeon myself. In 2008 I experienced a right arm weakness after a snow ball fight. A cervical MRI showed nerve root compression at C5,6,7 and a fusion was performed. I was told they were not able to get "everything" and a laminectomy was performed two years later from C3 to C7. Soon after both of these surgeries I experienced fasciculations in both side of the body, like popcorn popping as I describe it. They calmed down after months. Right before the laminectomy however I was beginning to get pins and needles down my chest and back when I would cough or even laugh hard, as well as down the right arm. About two months ago I went on a long Kayak trip for about three hours. I also used a rototiller that same week. About a week after this I began having weakness in both wrists, index fingers and thumbs and pins and needles in both hands , chest, back. Much of this is worse when sitting, improves when standing all day. Strength gets better through out the day, weak in the morning. I take no medicines but Excedrin and Prilosec. I had many labs done, all normal. Have had MRI of right shoulder (dislocated both shoulders 11 years ago from a fall from a barn) , brain, cervical, and even thoracic looking for possible plaques for possible MS. Had EMG which was normal, looking for possible ALS. Steroids seemed to make symptoms improve for the first run. A second run had little effect. A steroid injection was attempted in cervical epidural, but due to scar tissue, could not get med up to cervical, it all went down towards thoracic. Now they are talking about doing a cervical CT myelogram to look for scar tissue. My Mom had MS so I am always concerned that there are two things going on here. But I'm told by IM doc, neurologist, and physiatrist that this is not how MS presents. Would appreciate any ideas.
