Xerostomia After Being On Venlafaxine For 3 Years For Major Depression. Side Effect Of Medication?
Hello I have been on 375mg of Venlafaxine for approximately 3 years after having major depression, etc. I was also on other drugs but have managed to come off them. I have recently developed xerostomia - dry mouth/continual thirst. I see it is a side effect of Venlavaxine. I have had quite a few tests done to rule out other things it could be so I guess it is down to my medication now. Is it possible to develop this symptom now after all this time with no symptom of xerostomia? Is there any way of knowing if it is drug related or not? If I stop taking Venlafaxine, and the xerostomia is related to this, will this symptom go away? Thank you for your time. Martine
venlafaxine does cause dry mouth, when stopping drug, we need to weight risks and benefits, is it discomforting too much than your disease? , please do talk to your psychiatrist about this for alternative. but the fact it started after 3 years creates doubts. but it can happen sometime. try rinsing your mouth with water, keep your oral hygiene well by flossing, tongue cleaning till you meet your psychiatrist.
wish you good health
