My mother has been prescribed ramipril 5mg with a BP of 90 systolic she has been diagnosed type 2 diadetic, this tablet has coursed problems before & the hospital had taken her off it, she is concerned she will suffer the same fate as before if she starts to take it again. What advise can you offer
If she experiences side effects due to this medication, she should inform her doctor.
It is possible that it was added for kidney protection. In diabetics , this class of drugs is also used in this way. If her blood pressure is normal and there is an issue with kidney disease, another similar medication can be used at a low dose (to avoid affecting the blood pressure).
I hope this helps
