Will Shingles Spread By Without Having Direct Contact?

I have been diagnosed with shingles today (04april2014). I held twin 6month old babies today. My shingles rash is on my waist...under two layers of clothing. Have I endangered these babies at all? All that I read, says that the virus is spread through contact. I want to be CERTAIN that I don t have to contact the parents, to inform them of my virus! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for your question. Shingles, like chicken pox, is spread by direct contact with active lesions. If there was not contact, there was no spread. Additionally, contact with lesions that have already crusted over does not spread the virus.
