Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I noticed that when i wiped my butt there was blood. I performed a hemooccult test and was negative. My C. diff test was also negative. I did a gram stain of my stool and yeast cells = Moderate or Many. I'll perform and O&P later today but... Hope you can help me.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Blood on wiping the butt passing motion can be due to a local problem hence the tests for hemooccult and C diff will be negative indicative no colonic infection or so. Since gram staining and yeast are moderated, there can be infection but many yeasts can be commensels and hence may not be a problem to worry about. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult a General Surgeon for local examination, per-rectal digital examination and anoproctoscopy to get the cause which may be hemorrhoids or fissure in ano. Sitz bath before and after passing motion. Laxatives if there are hard stools. Normal full diet with high fibers. Antibiotic and metronidazole cover only if there are signs of infection. Probiotics and multivitamins help for good healing and restoring intestinal bacterial flora.
