I have a question about whether or not I should take Plan B. On Monday I got a UTI and took Cipro until Thursday morning (11:00 am). Thursday afternoon (6:00 pm) I started a new pack of Microgestin birth control pills. Friday night (today) at 8:30 pm my boyfriend and I had sex and he ejaculated a little inside me. I was wondering if I'm safe from pregnancy because I heard there is only one antibiotic (Rifadin) that is clinically shown to lower the effectiveness of birth control. Also, I heard it takes 24 hours for Cipro to leave your system and it has been 33 hours since the last dose on the antibiotic. Do you think I should take the Plan B or do you think I should be protected? I have never missed a pill my entire life.
Ciprofloxacin doesn't affect contraception effectiveness. If you were constantly taking the pills without forgetting there Is no need to take emergency contraception.
