What Should Be The Time Given Between Medications?

I have Graves disease. I have been taking 30 micro grams a day of Neomercazole for a month. My thyroid T4 level shows normal thyroid function after a blood test this week. I have been advised to take 100 micro grams of Eltroxin once a day along with the 30 micro grams of Neomercazole each day. What I would like to know is how to take all the meds. May I take them all together, or should I first take the one eg the Eltroxin and then an hour later the Neomerazole? I don t want to undo the excellent results achieved from taking the Neomercazole. Also if the thyroid is no functioning normally, can t i be slowly weaned of the Neomercazole ans see if the Graves has gone into remission? Thanks. Yvette

Hi,

Eltroxin is the synthetic formulation of the thyroxine contains Levothyroxine which acts as supplement for thyroxine deficiency. Thyroxine is converted to triiodothyronine which has effect in the several metabolic functions in the body. Graves disease is the condition where the antibodies are produced which get attached to normal thyroid receptors and secretes more thyroid hormones. Increased thyroid hormones affects the cardiac and other systems in the body.

Anti-thyroid drugs decreases the amount of thyroid hormones in the body. Started on high dose and weaned after achieving euthyroid status. Remissions seen in some individuals. Block-replace regimen is the procedure in which anti-thyroid drugs are weaned after supplementing with thyroxine. It will be continued for about six months depends on the outcome. Acid in the stomach helps absorption of thyroxine. So, take eltroxin in the morning, then Neomercazole.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
