What Preparations To Take For A Colectomy?
Hello, I had a colonoscopy a few days ago. It had been five years since my last colonoscopy. My Dr. recommended a total colectomy maybe saving 12 in. of the colon. I had too many polyps that were too large to remove and many large flat polyps. The Dr. stated it looked hereditary, like familiar adenomatosis polyposis. I am scheduled to see a surgeon on the 9th. What questions should I be asking? I am a 64 year old Female. What will my life be like after this surgery? What can I do in the weeks leading up to this surgery to prepare physically for it? It was mentioned the procedure would probable be done laproscopically. Thank you

you should ask....
how much colon he is going to save.
the chances of polyps in the saved part of colon.
possibility of laparoscopic colectomy, as it has less post operative pain.
colon evacuation preparation before surgery.
antibiotics before surgery.
apart from the surgical and anaesthetic complications, after this surgery you will have diarrhea, for that you can take medicines.
