What Is The Treatment For An Ear Ache?

Hi, Doctor, I was having earache since last 3 days. I used Otogesic ear drops and the pain is now almost reduced significantly. It started when I drank a glass of very chilled water under the hot sun. That ear pain shiftd from right ear to left on the next day. The pain spread to my neck and throat. I have been having too much pain in my throat as well since then. My tonsils are not swollen as such, but I can feel a lump like thing inside my throat when I attempt to swallow. It is slightly painful but I cannot feel it from the outside. Also, there is some slight formation of blackish lines/patches on the walls of upper part inside my mouth. I used to be a smoker, but I have quit smoking since last 4 days. I am worried if it is throat cancer or just an infection?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding earache along with throat infection.

As you said you feel pain in ear only when you swallow any thing and along with this your throat is also sore as well as you are getting feeling of lump in throat. All these your symptoms are in favour of Pharyngitis (throat infection) with referred otalgia.

I would like to say that your throat infection had created oedema in throat which in turn is blocking the opening of eustachian tube therefore total situation is of eustachian tube dysfunction and ultimate referred pain to ear.

For treatment point of view you should take-

1- Steam inhalation and warm saline gargling.

2- Tab Paracetamol.

3- Anti histaminics.

4- Antibiotic (preferably broad spectrum).

Probably you got the answer of your query.

Regards.
